Medical Coding is the process of taking a patient's healthcare information like medical procedures, diagnosis, necessary medical equipment and medical services information from a doctor's note. A medical coder transforms this information into universal medical alphanumeric codes. There are generally three types of universally known medical alphanumeric codes: International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding (HCPCS).
International Classification of Diseases or simply ICD is created and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). The classification system is largely used for the purpose of health recording and data collection, among other uses. These codes can classify symptoms, diseases, illness and cause of death. For instance ICD code F51.9 denotes sleeping disorder or insomnia.

Insomnia in which you have difficulty falling sleep or staying asleep throughout the night. Insomnia can sap not only your energy level and mood but also your health, work performance and quality of life. Insomnia may be the primary problem, or it maybe associated with other medical conditions or medications. Insomnia symptoms may include find it difficult to fall asleep, lie awake for long periods at night, wake up several times during the night, wake up early in the morning and not be able to get back to sleep, not feel refreshed when you get up, find it hard to nap during the day, feel tired and irritable during the day and have difficulty in concentrating.
It's not always clear what triggers insomnia, but its associated with stress and anxiety, a poor sleeping environment, lifestyle factors, mental or physical health conditions or some certain medicines like antidepressants, epilepsy medicine and steroid medication. There are a number of things you can try to help yourself get a good sleep, these includes:
- setting regular times for going to bed and waking up.
- relaxing before bed time
- using thick curtains or blinds, an eye mask and earplug to stop you from being woken by light.
- avoiding caffeine, nicotine,alcohol, heavy meals.
- not watching TV or using phones
- not napping during the day
